Okay, I was playing with my individual episodes screentime list again because 818 actually had 11 minutes 30 seconds of buddie because of the calls and the scenes at the firehouse and it got me thinking about s6 and the points where the show was actively separating them aka 602 to 606 and 616 to 618. And 6a as a whole has 21 minutes 29 seconds, which very little, but the 602-06 interval has 5 minutes and 22 seconds. 606 is actually the episode with the least buddie ever with incredible 27 seconds (it's actually tied with 211 and 402) because one thing they were doing is not putting them together during calls (the episode with the most buddie is 809 with 17 minutes and 16 seconds, that's over 3 times more than a 5 episodes interval in 6a). I know a lot of people got panicked and caught up on the lack of emotional buddie in the finale, but going back to s6 and the breakup nature of the cemetery and the way they had 8 minutes in the season after that, and it was all group scenes, the thing that makes the separation hit that hard is the fact that they are not being paired in calls in episodes that don't have heavy plotlines for them. So we don't see them casually interact in the field and the emotional plotlines didn't involve the other. And it's all very interesting with 5b and Eddie not being at the station and the way the emotional stuff that was happening with the 2 made up for the lack of casual contact since no one thinks there was no buddie in 5b, but 5b has 19 minutes and 33 seconds, the only episode in the whole show that has both Oliver and Ryan and buddie doesn't interact, and it's the shortest half season (not by average because 5b has 6 episodes and 6a has 8 but still). Because only the casual contact also pissed the audience off. And it shows yet another way the show backed itself into a corner. You can't fully separate them because the show suffers from it as proved by the reaction to s6. You can't just let them be besties because it creates an expectation around them and it makes it harder for them to develop relationships outside of each other. But can't just make them partners in the field and hope it will keep people calm because we have grown to expect the emotional connection especially since episodes like 705, 710, 809-13, 817. And writing both just makes people more desperate for them to get together and critical of episodes that don't have emotional depth around them. They only have one way out. I'm endlessly fascinated.

the only reason why the writers wouldn't have caitlyn say a single "sorry" to anyone, but especially to vi, is that having her say out loud what she was apologizing for would have made what she did more evident and harder to ignore for the audience.

every day i wake up and think about the fact that wade was special forces. and no there is not going to be any singular coherent point to this post this is just every thought and headcanon i have ever had about it

but like he will never not be a soldier in every single way. there are things he's learned that he's had to do like how to shoot and clean guns and how to survive torture and how to stake out a place and address medical emergencies, but there are also the other things like focus and discipline and communication, right. and this absolutely has an effect on many things that he does

in the case of an emergency, he can lock in and focus on the task he needs to do no matter what. wade as a person is very in touch with his emotions, but he can switch that off when necessary. we saw this when he was protecting vanessa in deadpool 2, and that was before vanessa was even physically injured—if he has to deal with a severe injury of a loved one, his special forces training would override any personal emotions he feels. and wade is intrinsically selfless, but his training has definitely helped hone that mindset: leaving no man behind, service before self. he was literally trained to put his life on the line for others and this is a theme we have seen in every single movie. doing the experiment for vanessa over actually caring about his own life, literally dying for russell, sacrificing himself so logan can live.

and even in daily life he is very attuned to his surroundings and body language. he knows how to carry himself, can change the tone of a conversation through the subtlest shift in body language. if he's angry or displeased, his tone could remain as lighthearted or nonchalant as before, but the air will shift ever so slightly to let you know that he's serious. and that is Scary. he can be so intimidating when he wants to be

also ! his identity as a soldier itself was protection for him. this is more symbolic than anything but Look at this:

this is by no means the special forces uniform or even a military uniform in general but this outfit choice was definitely meant to mimic it (vanessa is also wearing the same army green). it's literally armor for him in preparation for receiving bad news. like a soldier going to war

all this to say that he is an incredibly capable man and a soldier at his core and did not need protecting even before he became deadpool. not only that, but he is often the most qualified and skilled person around, which necessitates him doing the protecting most of the time. but just because he doesn't need protecting, it does not mean he doesn't need protecting on a mental and emotional-connection level. this is why logan is so good for him, because he's one of the only people in the world who understands this and can actually do something about it and will take a bullet or two for wade just because he can

“tryna eat me, doll?” he responds playfully. his hands are behind your thighs now, effortlessly hoisting you with your legs now wrapped around his waist. you were about to respond with some clever quip before your back hits the wall behind you gently his larger hand further softening the blow. you can feel him gently rut his hardness up into you.

Can we talk about how absolutely starved for your affection Lucifer is??? Hold his hand, touch his cheek, press your forehead against his and he's putty. But you go even further? Hold him tightly against you. Cradle his head in your hands and give him the most passionate kiss. He's a puddle at your feet.

Whether it's a small fleeting touch or one that is much more intimate. And it doesn't have to be sexual, it doesn't have to even be romantic. He wants to hold your hand, lay his head on your shoulder, or just share your space with you. He's happy to just be near you and to know that you enjoy being near him. The way his heart flutters when you adress him directly. When you both make eye contact...This man loves it all because you are so very important to him. He craves your presence so very deeply and you have no idea just how much it means to him when you are around.

light seeing L as he dies and trying to reach up a hand to touch him but he doesn't have the strength to move his arms through the pain anymore. so he just screams and begs for him to help in his mind. and he thinks in his final moments it must be L and not ryuk killing him from inside his chest like a disease because he has only ever felt that strain and hurt in his heart before when he was around him. 30 Seconds for Redemption (an analysis and personal acceptance of what is)

We all know and appreciate how effective “show don’t tell” can be in storytelling. In the case of Andor 2x08, there are two critical moments that add depth to Dedra and Syril without them having to say a word. 

I have been asking myself since the series ended “Where can Dedra be redeemed?” “Is she a redeemable antagonist?” It was very clear for me with Syril’s moment, but I wanted to sit with Dedra’s for a while longer, and this is where my headspace is currently.

Starting with Syril’s redemption…

Syril Karn lowering his gun

This man was locked on. He beat Cassian. He had him! But then Cassian, starring down the barrel, bewilderedly asks “Who are you?” 

Let’s not forget, Cassian pointed a gun at Syril, tied him up, and let him live in 1x03. Sure, many years have gone by, but of course Syril didn't forget. Syril would never forget the foil to his entire being. 

Cassian’s question was the final piece to shattering Syril's entire worldview. Everything he knew, he believed to be true, his identity, purpose… just gone.

Syril took that small moment of humility to lower his gun. What a blow to your ego and just everything you thought you knew about yourself.

Dedra hesitating not once, but twice

She knows the plan. Captain Kaido reminds her that she is the finger and he is the trigger. She is to relay the command from Partagaz. 

After Syril confronts her, and she tries to bring him back herself, she gives the order to Grymish find Syril and return him. The very next moment she’s being told Partagaz is on the line. She knows what this call is for.

But she also knows that Syril is out there in the crowd. She hesitates for 10 seconds to answer bc she knows what she has to do next.

When we cut back to Dedra, she is silently removing the headset and is feeling a painful weight begin to sink in. It looks almost as if she is experiencing tunnel vision.

She is asked for the orders.

She opens her mouth to give them but stops. Taking a breath instead. She is asked again, and you can see her slightly recoil.

But he’s still out there… 

She takes another breath, attempts to steady herself, but her voice is about to give it all away. “Proceed” said through gritted teeth and a shaky tone.

Dedra hesitated for 15 seconds to tell Kaido to execute the plan.

Dedra had to proceed, but struggled to. Not because she has any humanity for Ghormans. But because Syril is in that crowd. She has been working on this project for years. This moment has been her goal post. She believed she was going to be rewarded once this was all over with.

Let’s take a moment to untangle ourselves and re-affirm our understanding of this character. If she wasn’t in a relationship and didn’t face certain danger on Ferrix, she’d be executing that plan and going home that same day. Her loyalty is to the Empire. It always has been.

But because she is in a relationship and trauma bonded with someone, Dedra’s only redemption is that she hesitated to try and give the one person she cares about enough time to get out or be found. We are shown 25 seconds of her hesitating. Hoping. Wishing. Dreading. If she ignored Partagaz or didn't make the call at all, she'd have been redeemed there. She would have ultimately sparred innocent lives for just one. And if the plan was still executed without her, it wouldn't have been entirely on her.

Syril’s only redemption is him lowering his gun. Speed running his own stages of grief over himself. Coming to realize his insignificance. Considering sparing Cassian. His moment is exactly 5 seconds. If he lived to drop the gun and walk away, that would have been his redeemable moment fully realized.

So, despite the small amount of time they are allowed and we are given, we can learn and observe so much about these characters. This is where we can book club these moments and engage in a fun character/story thought exercise. 

If we could plead and bargain “please don’t do this, you can change” to Dedra and Syril. Let’s ask the following questions: 

Would the oppressive system they’re in let them?

What would they be willing to sacrifice to change for good?

Would they stay together if one or both of them changed?

Based on what we know about these characters, would they even entertain the idea of changing?

Okay, so analysing mcdanno from a yaoi pov is making me realize that the thing that makes buddie different is that they fully shy away from the way that Buck and Eddie are weird about each other and the draw a very clear line with physical contact. H50 makes a joke out of the concept that there might be something extra and it kinda trains the audience to take moments where lines are crossed as The Usual because there is no line. They have pet names, they make the jokes about being married themselves, they know and they lean into it. And Mcdanno together would just add sex because the physical line in their dynamic doesn't exist. They touch casually, they hug pretty frequently for 2 dudes on a procedural, they lean closer to each other, they have thumbs on necks and hands reaching out for comfort in random cases. The only actual difference from a relationship there would be literal sex. But since they trained the audience to not take it seriously, you don't question why it's not happening. The thing with buddie is that there are very clear lines between them. They have a lot they don't talk about, Buck never initiates physical contact, they were incredibly awkward going in for that hug before Eddie left. And even though they have a few casual touches from Eddie over the seasons and that happened more frequently since the switch to abc, they keep that physical line between them very clear because most of the time Eddie is casually touching Buck is with intent, he's snapping Buck to attention because it's not something they do. Along with Not Talking when it comes to stuff that matters and would tumble them into talking about their feelings or draw a clear line on what they mean to each other. The fact that that physical space exists creates the question of why it is there and it's also something that would make established buddie different from the lead up. And the fact that they won't talk about stuff like the will or the ndes creates the question of what they're hiding. That creates the opening to make them a couple in ways the audience will differentiate from their friendship, they just need to cross one of the lines. And that's the thing that's handled the most differently.

They were very intentional in showing it and making it a thing when it really didn’t need to be. And there’s something about buck being the one that conversation was with and him being the last person from the 118 to see Bobby - to be the one to have to relay the news to everyone.

Xavier’s Apartment — 1:02 AM

Xavier was awake, he already was when he heard the roar of a motorcycle engine cutting through the silent corridors of the night. Xavier was wide awake when he pulled back the translucent window curtains that did nothing to shield his bedroom floor from the morning light and he was awake when he watched you merrily skip out of the apartment building, white hair and red eyed man in tow.

Xavier has been losing sleep lately. At first it didn’t come as a bother, something he thought only came as a result of his countless mid-afternoon naps. He thought maybe this was normal, that him staying up late at night willing that no man show up to whisk you away was just an afterthought of what physical reason was causing his insomnia. But then his nightly visits became more frequent and Xavier couldn’t help but find himself silently watching night after night as he helped you get on his midnight motorcycle if only to whisk you away into secrecy of dusk.

The crowned prince was not none the wiser, he knew who he was, knew the crimes he’d been punished for in his home planet of Philos. He’s heard stories of the fiend that reaps vengeance against corrupt officials and knows just how he has willingly spared him on the rare occasions their paths did cross.

Of course, the fiend also knows of him. He knows how the crowned prince have found himself solace and refuge in the apartment just above yours and he knows the role he plays as your partner in a job that constantly risks exposure of his sworn secrecy. Coincidence was barely an afterthought, he had more pressing matters to attend to especially after his informants told him that the crowned prince’s own men were already after him.

He wouldn’t consider them anything but acquaintances but he does recognize the kindredness of their own spirits. He’s heard stories of a young girl back in Philos that occupied the prince’s heart which ultimately made him turn away from his sworn princely duties. He’s never met her, of course, only having heard whispers while he sat bare inside the cell they’ve thrown him into. Besides that, Sylus has more grace and tact than people would like to admit and to use other people to get his vengeance is just not something he would stoop so lowly into. The girl merely existed as an extension of the prince and if he’s being quite honest — Sylus doesn’t have anything against him.

But Sylus is aware of the keening eyes that followed him and his person all through the night. He has been ever since he first found himself in your building, hoping to whisk you away from some unnamed task he and his own henchmen could definitely finish on their own. He’s acutely aware of how a pair of eyes gently traced your outline as you skipped to his vehicle in utter bliss and complete unawareness.

It was the same for tonight. Xavier found himself standing in front of his balcony door. It has only been a quarter of an hour before he heard the creak of the building’s entrance and the muffled footsteps that trudged on the otherwise silent foyer.

Xavier watched briefly before you came into view and his eyes traced your entire person noting that you’re safe, you’ve no injury, you’re happy and you’re willingly following the fiend into the darkness of the night.

He watched you even when Sylus followed behind you, red eyes trained on yours but once again aware of his own watchful ones that came from the balcony just above yours. Sylus smiled softly before helping you with the helmet you gently prod at his arms, fastening it tightly before giving the top a teasing knock.

Xavier’s breath hitched when he saw the dark red swirls that suddenly appeared by the fiend’s fingertips, his sword made of light almost materializing in his palms, before he realized he was only using it to help you get on. The prince’s eyebrows furrowed before he willed his sword away and continued to watch.

There was a burning sensation clawing from underneath his chest, right where his heart should be. He feels it screaming at him, begging him to do something. He clutched his palm over it, steeling himself as he continued to watch you smile. Smile so softly at the white haired man, smile so bashfully as he whispered a quip, smiled contently when he finally walked to the other side, grabbing his own helmet to put in place.

Sylus paused momentarily to glimpse at the balcony window above yours. You were too busy settling yourself to even notice the breath of a whisper that carried itself through the wind. Xavier glanced back at him, not surprised with his direct regard of his watchful eyes. He nodded at him, an unspoken understanding shared only between the fiend and the crowned prince. And he nodded back up, a silent agreement to keep you safe from whatever lurks in the darkness of the night.

That was the first time Xavier and Sylus ever regarded each other. The crowned prince stood at his balcony window until Sylus got on the vehicle and drove you straight into the night. Only a silhouette of who once were remained at the empty streets below.

Xavier sighed, still feeling the suffocating clawing at his chest and yet he willed himself away from the balcony window, away from you, away from what should’ve been, away from what could’ve been. He thinks to himself that this is what he deserves, that self-punishment is only befitting for those with pasts like he. The dawn is still far away and sleep would not visit the crowned prince that night, but he finds comfort in the thought of you being happy — even if it’s the arms of another.

But I always think of that ep where danny went through that ghost spliter, and you see Phantom and danny as two separate beings [this would've been so cool to explore btw]

Before they quickly went back lol

But what if the giw or someone actually succeeded in splitting them up. I wanna see the ramifications that would have.

Would Danny's "human form" slowly deteriorate from the injuries he sustained from the portal? Would it be instant or would it happen slowly.

Everyone thinks yay! No more halfa hes cured yippee 🕺until Danny looks more and more worn down, has phantom pains, can't sleep, nightmares, and slowly slowly his injuries start killing him and everyone starts noticing.

And then they realize danny can't live without phantom. That the people trying to save him from phantom inevitably ended up killing him again.

Also on the flip side how would this affect phantom like would he just fade away since his body technically isn't dead yet. Would he be caught up in some weird in-between 🤔
